Imphal: Manipur continued to dominate the Northeast sports scene, winning the overall title of the prestigious championship for the third time in a row in the recently concluded third Northeast Games.
The Games, held in Nagaland from March 18 to 23, saw athletes compete in 15 different disciplines, including archery, athletics and badminton.
Manipur triumphed with an impressive 130 medals including 52 gold medals and cemented its position as a powerhouse in the Northeast Games.
The host state, Nagaland, put up a strong showing, finishing as the first runner-up with a total of 134 medals, including 48 golds. Assam followed closely behind, securing the second runner-up position with 139 medals.
The Games fostered a spirit of healthy competition amongst all eight participating Northeastern states: Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
Manipur has consistently displayed its prowess in these Games. They were crowned champions in the inaugural edition held in Imphal back in 2018 and successfully defended their title in Meghalaya in 2022.
