IMD predicts heavy rains in NE states due to Cyclone Mocha

Guwahati: As Cyclone Mocha passed through neighboring Bangladesh and Myanmar recently, it also affected India’s northeastern region. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, heavy rains will continue in the northeastern states this week.

According to Met department reports, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over the northeast states and other parts of India in the next five days from Tuesday to Saturday, May 16-20.
A trough over eastern India will blow south-westerly winds from the Bay of Bengal towards the north-east and cause heavy rainfall over the region.

Even as heavy rains lashed parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, sub-Himalayan West Bengal witnessed more storms and heavy rainfall (115.5 mm-204 mm meters) is expected. and Sikkim on Wednesday, May 17. Light rain and thundershowers are expected in Arunachal Pradesh.

The IMD said isolated heavy rain is likely to continue over Assam and Meghalaya till Friday.
It may be mentioned here that the Meteorological Department has also predicted light to moderate fog at isolated places in the Northeast region.

While the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rain for the northeast, it has reported that coastal Andhra Pradesh is likely to witness a heat wave.
To warn the public, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for Arunachal on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura till the end of the week.
