Guwahati: IMD forecasts heavy rains in NE till June 17, Orange alert for Arunachal .The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday forecast heavy rains in the northeast till June 17.
The IMD said the current heavy rains are likely to continue for the next five days in northeastern India and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. It is already raining heavily in many parts of Assam and Meghalaya.
Heavy rainfall with a daily rainfall of 150-200 mm is forecast in Northeast India during this period. The amount can be up to 500 mm, which is a risk of flooding and landslides in the area.
Extreme levels of rainfall are expected in parts of Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim in the next 24 hours, according to the weather forecast. Heavy showers with thundershowers are expected in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Extremely heavy rainfall with thundershowers is expected in Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Assam and Meghalaya on June 15, while thundershowers are expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Meanwhile, on Twitter, the Special DGP Law and Order has asked Guwahati residents to restrict road travel to June 14, 15 and 16 only.
