IIT-Guwahati then Probe Steel dome collapse at the new Meghalaya Assembly Building
Shillong: IIT-Guwahati then Probe Steel dome collapse at the new Meghalaya Assembly Building ,Meghalaya Chief Minister Konrad K Sangma has said that the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) will audit the fall of a steel dome from the top of an assembly building under construction.
The Assembly’s high-powered committee had decided to have a third-party body investigate and audit the incident.
The steel dome atop the under-construction Assembly building collapsed on Sunday.
The CM said the Assembly building was a highly technical project, as a project of this nature has never been done in the whole of North East.
“To the best of my knowledge, I think this type of project has not been tested anywhere in the eastern region, so it was very technical and very complex from a design and construction point of view,” Sangma said.
He urged all concerned to wait for the inquiry report so that the real picture of the whole incident came to light, adding that it would be premature to reach a conclusion and blame anyone.
“Let the inquiry report come and we will decide,” he said.
The contract for the project in New Shilling Township has been awarded to UP firm UPNRRN Limited.
Work on the new assembly building began in 2019 and was due to end in July this year. The 70-tonne steel dome collapsed at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
“Let the inquiry report come and we will decide,” he said.
