Imphal: After joint security forces arrested a gang member with arms, ammunition and mobile handsets, suspected Kuki militants attacked a foot patrolling party of Assam Rifles in Tengnoupal district of Manipur bordering Myanmar. Attacked with a IED bomb on Thursday, officials said.
Tengnoupal district is mainly inhabited by Kuki tribes.

A joint team of Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and CRPF on Wednesday arrested a member of the armed gang, identified as Mutum Rajesh, 25, a resident of Keiyamgei village in Imphal West district.
He was arrested while conducting operations at the Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) and recovered from his possession one .32 pistol with one magazine containing five live rounds, one BP jacket, one magazine pouch, one BP helmet, A Mahindra Thar Jeep was recovered without a registration number. and a mobile device in his possession.

In the aftermath of his arrest, search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of the state and during the patrolling an Assam Rifles team was attacked with an IED by the suspected Kuki militants at Saibol village in Tengnoupal district at around 8.20 a.m on Thursday.

However, none of the personnel were injured in the blast, officials said.

Search operations were conducted at the suspected places to find and ‘neutralize’ the attacks, the officials added.
