I will not stand with PM Modi said Zoramthanga on polls campaign
Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on October 23 announced that he will not share the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tour of the state to campaign for the Assembly elections.
The Prime Minister is expected to visit Mamit city on October 30 to support BJP candidates. Zoramthanga pointed to the recent violence in Manipur and the alleged burning of hundreds of churches by the Meitei community as reasons for his decision, saying that his party MNF’s alliance with the BJP So there will be a significant loss.
The people of Mizoram are all Christians. When the people of Manipur burnt hundreds of churches in Manipur, they (the Mizos) were totally against this kind of idea.
Sympathizing with the BJP at this time would be a big minus point for my party,” the chief minister said in an interview with BBC News.
He added that it would be better if the Prime Minister comes alone and shares the platform himself and I take the stage separately.
Despite being part of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) and an ally at the Centre, the MNF does not cooperate with the BJP in Mizoram. Zoramthanga asserted that the MNF’s association with the NDA and NEDA was due to its opposition to the Congress, and that it did not want to be part of any Congress-led coalition.
