Meghalaya: Acting on a specific tip-off, Vigilantes under 193 Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya on May 14, 2023 seized clothing items namely Sarees worth more than Rs.20 lakh from the border area of East Khasi Hills.
The consignment was captured by BOP Barmanbari troops under 193 Bn BSF when the miscreants were trying to cross it to Bangladesh.
When challenged by the BSF, the smugglers took advantage of the dense vegetation, darkness and arid terrain to flee the scene, leaving the load on their heads. A search of the area revealed 15 bundles of Sarees meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh. The confiscated items were handed over to the Customs Office Dangar.
BSF is maintaining high alert along Indo-Bangladesh border to thwart nefarious attempts of smugglers.
