Himanta invites PM to Rongali Bihu in Assam
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and invited him to participate in the spring festival Rongali Bihu in the state.
Sarma told reporters after the meeting that it was his long-standing wish that the prime minister visit the state during its main festival in April.
“The prime minister has agreed to visit but the date will be decided later…it could be either April 14 or 15,” Sarma said.
The CM said that his meeting with the PM was scheduled long ago but he took the opportunity to condole with Modi on behalf of the people of Assam on the death of his mother.
Himanta said that he also apprised the Prime Minister about the steps being taken to hold the five G20 meetings scheduled in the state.
He also apprised Modi about the progress made in the implementation of central schemes.
Sarma added, “He advised me on several issues, including the implementation of Gatishakti for overall and integrated development of the state.”
