Assam Madrassas & Terrorism
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday claimed that several madrassas in the state are being used as terrorist hubs by some elements.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made this statement while reacting to the recent demolition of madrassas in the state.
On Monday, a madrassa in Assam’s Barpeta district with alleged links to jihadist elements was demolished by the administration.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this is the second madrassa that we have demolished in Assam as these institutions were being used as centers of terrorism.
The Assam chief minister further claimed that the madrassa in Barpeta, which was demolished, was used as a training camp by Al-Qaeda.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that no educational activities were conducted in the demolished madrasa in Barpeta.
The madrassa, which was demolished by the Barpeta district administration on Monday, was named Sheikh Hind Mahmoodul Hasan Jami Al Huda.
This Madrasah was located in Joshihatapara area of Barpita district of Assam.
Notably, a Bangladeshi national named Saiful Islam alias Haroon Rashid alias Muhammad Suman, with links to ABT, established Sheikh Hind Mehmoodul Hasan Jami Al-Hadi Madrasah in Barpita district of Assam in 2019.
Saiful Islam was arrested by the police in Assam last month.
