Heroin Worth Rs 3 Cr seized by Police 2 nabbed in Karbi Anglong

Assam: In another drug bust, the Assam Police seized heroin worth Rs 3 crore and arrested two persons in Karbi Anglong district.

Heroin was seized in a joint operation by police and CRPF on Tuesday. According to sources, the local police and CRPF had launched a search operation in Khakarjan area based on a specific tip-off.
About 687.26 grams of heroin was seized after the operations.

A police officer said, “A vehicle coming from Dimpur was intercepted around 9 am. A thorough search revealed heroin packed in 54 cases of soap hidden in a secret chamber on the dashboard of the vehicle.
He added that the heroin, weighing 687.26 grams, is estimated to be worth Rs 3 crore.

The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Bashir Bhuyan (30) and Safikul Islam (21). The arrested persons are the driver and helper of the vehicle, both hailing from Barpeta district.
Last month, a large cache of heroin worth around Rs 25 crore stored in soap boxes was seized in Assam’s Bokajan. Along with the drugs, the officials also arrested a person for smuggling.

According to reports, the Bokajan police in Assam’s Karbi Anglong stopped a vehicle at a bridge in Kattakhti based on specific information of possible drug trade.
During a search of the vehicle, a Mahindra Bolero, the police found heroin hidden in the hidden compartments of the vehicle.

According to the authorities, the weight of seized heroin is about five kilograms. Officials estimate the value of this massive seizure in illegal drug markets to be around Rs 25 crore.
