Tinsukia: Police recovered heroin worth Rs 1 crore from a night service bus in East Assam’s Tinsukia on Saturday morning.
An official said that the police arrested four persons, including the bus driver, in connection with the export of drugs.
Among those arrested are Pankaj Dihingia (driver) 49, Dijan Deka (handyman) 45, Binod Bhumij and 30-year-old Surendar Rai.
The drugs were seized from the New Tinsukia Railway Station area.
Tinsukia police station officer-in-charge Parag Jyoti Brahgohain said, “Acting on the specific input, we stopped the Tinsukia-bound night super near ASTC bus terminal on ATT. During the road checking we found soap. 765.81 grams of heroin kept in several cases were recovered.
The bus with registration number AS 01 JC 6754 was coming from Dimapur.
Buragohain said that the consignment was brought from Dimapur and the police is investigating to identify each link in the chain.
He said that the priority is to catch the big players who are behind this drug cartel.
Dimapur has emerged as a hub for drug trafficking from where it travels to different parts of Assam by bus and train.
