GUWAHATI: Since Wednesday, northeast India has been witnessing rain, thundershowers and even hailstorms. Heavy hailstorm lashed Gangtok on Wednesday and heavy rain lashed many parts of Sikkim.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports, a “cyclonic circulation” with rain is expected over south Assam, along with other northeastern states from March 15 to 18.
Heavy rain with thundershowers is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Manipur. Rain is also expected in Mizoram, Tripura and Sikkim in the next three days.
Reports said the northeastern region was put on “orange alert” on Tuesday. An orange alert means the region will experience hazardous weather and precautions should be taken.
The IMD expects the orange alert to be upgraded to a light “yellow alert” for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura on Wednesday, but worse for Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh in the coming days. The weather is expected.
