Heavy gunfight between Kukis and Meiteis, 1 Meitei volunteer died

Imphal: Violence resurfaces in Manipur as a heavy gunfight erupted between two Kukis and Meiteis armed groups, resulting in the death of a 33-year-old Meitei volunteer.

The incident unfolded in Sinam Kom, located on the border between the Kangpkopi and Imphal East districts of Manipur, during the night of Friday.

Additionally, a ‘village volunteer’ who had gone missing after the confrontation was discovered deceased on Saturday (April 27) morning.

The deceased is identified as Laishram Bomcha, also known as Prem (aged 32), from Sinam Mamang Leikai, Imphal East.
Earlier, two CRPF personnel lost their lives in a suspected Kuki militants’ attack in Narayansena region under Bishnupur district of Manipur.
Manipur is witnessing steady climb of violence again with several reports of such incidents. On April 13, 2024, two armed persons from the Kuki-Zo community were killed in an ensuing gunfight with armed Meitei/Meetei groups in the periphery areas of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts.
Meanwhile, security forces were deployed in the area to prevent a flare-up.
