Itanagar: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has strongly condemned the recent alleged attempts by Hajongs and Chakma outfits to communalise the refugee crisis in the state on “religious lines”.
Referring to videos of speeches by some individuals, particularly those representing the “two refugee communities” in New Delhi and Diyun, the party said the claims by these individuals were false and fueled hostility against the local people of Arunachal.
According to the PPA, the speakers claimed in their speeches that “Hindu and Buddhist communities in Arunachal Pradesh are threatened and persecuted because of their religious affiliation and caste.”
“This claim is completely false and should not mislead people in other parts of the country, especially the mainland. Rather, it is the local people who have been suffering due to the unprecedented influx of refugees over the past several years. This has had a serious impact on the socio-political demographics of the state,” the party said in a statement on Friday.
The PPA has also asked the Chakma and Hajongs communities to refrain from making demands that directly affect the hosts.
PPA is against granting land rights, APST status or residence certificate. Citizenship etc. to both Hajongs and Chakma within Arunachal Pradesh. The party’s statement said that higher education and central jobs can be done on a purely humanitarian basis as per other refugees in the country and outside Arunachal.
The PPA, meanwhile, also questioned Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and Chief Minister Pema Khandu over their statements on resettlement and deportation of refugees from Arunachal.
“We want to know when the proposed resettlement process will start. We also want to know if this statement was made to fool the public or if they are really serious about solving the refugee crisis in the state. PPA asked.
The party added that it strongly supports the deportation of all refugees, including illegal immigrants, in the state.
