Gyamar Padang, the whistleblower who exposed the infamous Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) paper leak scam, died in a hospital in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Padang was undergoing treatment at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology Hospital in Hyderabad and died at 8:30 am on Wednesday.
The Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee on APPSC has confirmed the death of a whistleblower in the APPSC paper leak scam. The committee also warned “comrades and well-wishers and the public” to “be very careful in the choice of words at this time and refrain from any accusations”.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Rural Development Agency Secretary and Arunachal Pradesh Government Spokesperson Ajay Chagati said on Tuesday that the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has rejected APPSC’s proposal to hold the exams.
The decision was taken amid ongoing investigations and reforms into allegations of paper leaks in the commission.
When the APPSC paper leak scandal came to light last year, the government set up a three-member inquiry committee to review the standard operating procedures of the commission. The committee made 17 recommendations, which were shared with civil societies, the media and the commission, paving the way for internal reforms in the APPSC.
