Guwahati: on Thursday Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone of seven infrastructure projects including a new Raj Bhavan and Guwahati Police Commissioner’s office at a cost of Rs 1,776 crore in the state capital.
Sarma began by laying the foundation stone of a new Raj Bhawan at Kharghuli in the presence of Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi.
After the ceremony, the Chief Minister tweeted, “The new Raj Bhawan to be constructed at a cost of Rs 41.32 crore in 18 months will be one of the most beautiful Governor’s Houses in the country.
He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new Police Commissionerate in Khanapara, Guwahati.
“To be completed in 24 months, the Rs 95 crore building will house all the departments and branches functioning under the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati and will give a boost to police administration in the city,” he said.
Sarma said the government would spend another Rs 544.44 crore for the reconstruction of Guwahati Police Reserve Campus.
It will also include residential quarters for police personnel. I am confident that the new infrastructure will help the force carry out its responsibilities effectively,” said Sarma, who also holds the home portfolio.
As part of its efforts to make governance more citizen-centric by making public services available under one roof, it initiated development activities for an integrated directorate complex at Betkuchi at a cost of Rs 808 crore.
“It will have various government directorates spread across the city,” Sarma said.
In addition, an integrated office of Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan, which mainly covers the city of Guwahati, will be constructed in Rupnagar area.
“To be constructed at a cost of Rs 58 crore, the G+2 building will help people access various public services as it will house all the departments that report to the DC,” the chief minister said in another tweet. .
He also announced that two auditoriums would be built – one inside the Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra complex and the other at Khanapara.
“Keeping in mind the growing need to make Guwahati the gateway to South-East Asia a massive infrastructure drive, we are going to construct a 5,000-capacity international auditorium at Khanapara,” Sarma said.
He added that the auditorium, which will be the largest in the city, will be constructed at a cost of Rs 185 crore.
In addition, Sarma laid the foundation stone for the construction of the fourth auditorium in the premises of Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra.
He added that the 800 capacity auditorium to be constructed at a cost of Rs 44.26 crore will be completed within 24 months.
