Guwahati: Ajmal Hussain alias Amzad was arrested for alleged links to Bangladeshi terrorist organization Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
The police picked him up from his residence in Guwahati’s Dhiranpara area on Wednesday morning and arrested him at night.
The operation was carried out by Goalpara Police in collaboration with Fatasal Ambari Police Station in Guwahati.
The police have also recovered books and posters from his residence which were used to run the module.
Amzad came into contact with Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) through Bangladeshi terrorist Saiful Islam alias Haroon Rasheed alias Muhammad Suman, who was working as a teacher at Dhakliapara mosque and was arrested last month.
According to reports, Saiful Islam established Shaikhul Hind Mahmoodul Hasan Jamaul Hudi Madrasah in Barpeta district in 2019.
Amjad was a merchant who came in contact with Islam while purchasing goods from the Golpara area.
“His statements were corroborated by those in Islam, who have already been arrested, and he admitted to being a member of AQIS and ABT. He admitted that he had given Bangladeshi jihadis his residence in Guwahati. Sheltered at Gah and trained by AQIS in Barpeta. Further investigation is on,” said an investigating officer.
