Guwahati: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria attended the official Guinness World Record certificate handing over ceremony for Hemkosh at BKB Hall, Guwahati University on Monday.

Jayanta Baroh, Publisher of Hemkosh and Chairman of Pratdin Media Network, received the certificate in the presence of the Governor.
Congratulating the team of Sadin Pratidin Group for their noble initiative, the Governor said that unwavering dedication and tireless efforts have brought this historic project to completion.
The values ​​of inclusion, accessibility, and cultural preservation that this project upholds are of great importance, and will undoubtedly benefit society for years to come.

He also expressed that this important effort to visualize and unveil a Braille dictionary is an inspiration for people to create more Braille versions of dictionaries in different languages ​​across the country.
This will undoubtedly empower and develop the visually impaired community, enabling them to easily access information and knowledge.

He also said that making this resource available to the blind community has ushered in a new era of knowledge acquisition and inclusive learning.
It is a remarkable achievement that it has led the Assamese society forward, showing that with determination and compassion, anything is possible.

The publisher’s decision to produce this dictionary is a shining example of the positive impact a single action can have on society.
It sets the stage for future generations to strive for a more inclusive and knowledge-based world.

It is noteworthy that the Braille edition of Hemkosh, conceived and published by Jayanta Baruah, grandson of the late Hemchandra Baruah, is notable for being the largest bilingual Braille dictionary in the world.
Derived from Hemkosh’s 14th edition of the Regular Dictionary, the Braille edition contains 90,640 words printed in 21 volumes and six parts, spanning 10,279 pages and weighing 80,800 kg.

The Braille version of the Hemkosh is a continuation of the Hemkosh tradition and consists of more than 15 volumes and about 10,000 pages.
