KOHIMA: State government employees, led by the Confederation of All Nagaland State Service Employees Association (CANSSEA), on Tuesday joined a nationwide protest demanding scrapping of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) and the National Pension Scheme (NPS). .
Protesters took to the streets and gathered outside the civil secretariat in Kohima holding placards that read “NPS ka scrap, pension is my right”, “NPS people are fools”. Making”, “NPS is not a pension scheme”, etc. ‘
The state government employees joined the nationwide protest called by the All India State Government Employees Federation (AISGEF) and the Central Government Employees and Workers (CGEW) holding 7 charters of demand.
Speaking to journalists, CANSSEA President Dr Ilang said, “CANSSEA is focusing on the National Pension Scheme. We already have 40,000 employees. We are demanding that the NPS be scrapped.
He said that the state government and the center should work together to deal with this problem. The NPS was introduced by the Center for all government appointments made after January 1, 2004, and is regulated under the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) Act, 2013.
“Abolish NPS and give us what is due to all employees, the old pension scheme which is a defined benefit scheme run by the government. While NPS is a privatized company where the money is going, we are not. We don’t know if we will get pension or not,” he said.
Dr Ilang said that there should be ‘one nation, one pension’ and it is the right of every employee which is earned by hard work. “We will not stop until the Government of India repeals this act,” he added.
