GNLA is reportedly reorgranizing and recruiting youth in Meghalaya

Shillong: In one of the most alarming developments in the Northeast region, it has been reported that the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) is regrouping in Meghalaya.

This information was given on the basis of a secret document which is circulating on social media.

According to reports, the leaked letter was dated May 11, 2023.

The letter states that meetings are being held at various places in the Garo Hills such as Jadi, Nongal, and Chalang to “mobilize” the youth to join the organization.
It also said that around 500 youths were already recruited by the GNLA but the exact facts are still unknown.

They were allegedly being sent to Nagaland and Myanmar for training.

The Meghalaya Police Department is yet to make an official statement on the matter.
It may be noted that in 2018, its leader Sohan D Shira was shot dead in an operation, after which the banned militant organization was dissolved.

Shira had a few followers left and was never arrested as he moved from place to place.

However, the recent report may be very alarming and an official statement is awaited.
