Guwahati: The Assam State Election Commission (ASEC) has ordered an inquiry against Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for alleged violation of the Electoral Code of Conduct during the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) election campaign.

The Assam State Election Commission on Monday asked Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Pallab Gopal Jha to investigate the alleged violation of election code of conduct by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Asom Jatiya Parishad (AJP) on Monday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission alleging that Chief Minister Sarma resorted to corrupt practices during the election campaign and provided land leases to landless residents of Guwahati. By announcing, he violated the election code of conduct.
The AJP alleged that Chief Minister Sarma had persuaded the voters by offering an extension in the Arunodoi scheme and by offering Rs 100 million to each ward for development activities on voting for BJP candidates.
