Death of George Bordoloi: Don Basco’s VC Dr. Stephen Mauvelli granted bail. In a significant development in the death of Assamese businessman George Bordoloi, the Vice Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) Dr. Stephen Mauvili was granted bail by the Guwahati High Court on Thursday in Tepesia , Sonapur.

Mavely was arrested on the basis of a note written by Bordoloi, who allegedly committed suicide on Monday and was remanded in custody for two days by a lower court.

The lawsuit against Mavely was filed under Section 306 of the IPC following a complaint filed by Patrick Bordoloi following the death of his father, George Bordoloi.

A Guwahati High Court bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi had on May 26 granted bail to Mavely with a surety bond of Rs 25,000 and two sureties of the same amount.
The court, while hearing senior advocate of Guwahati High Court Angshuman Bora, observed in its order presented by Dr Mavely that, “In the immediate case, the petitioner is the Vice Chancellor of a prestigious educational institution and there is nothing on record. Although so far, it is alleged that the father of the informant had committed suicide as a result of certain actions of the petitioner, the F.I.R. The elephant’s destruction of crops in the village is caused by the donor filing a civil case and carrying out some constructions inside the university campus.
Borduloi, 70, was found hanging from a tree in the backyard of his eco-resort at Hatimurain Sonapur, a suburb of Guwahati.
