Imphal: Four tribals, family members of a soldier, including his mother, went missing after their vehicle was hijacked by a mob on November 7 at a security post near Kangchup Chingkhong village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
According to reports, the fifth occupant of the vehicle, a 65-year-old father of an Indian Army soldier, who sustained multiple injuries, was rescued by security forces and later admitted to hospital in a critical condition.
However, Sepoy, a tribal from the Kuki-Zo community is not posted in Manipur.
The abduction followed a two-hour-long encounter, in which firearms were used between armed miscreants from Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities. Several people, including passers-by, are reported to have been injured.
However, according to the police, on November 7, at Kangchup Chingkhong, a bolero carrying 5 persons (2 women and 3 men) belonging to the Kuki community was attacked by an angry mob while going from Churachandpur to Leimakhong.
Four of them were forcibly taken away by the mob while one escaped.
One person from the group was later rescued by security forces and airlifted to Dimapur for further medical treatment.
Other 04 (four) persons including the absconder could not be traced. Security forces are actively involved in searching and rescuing the missing persons.
Amid clashes between mobs and security forces, armed miscreants exchanged fire in K. Songlung mountain range, Koutruk and Tairenpokpi areas.
In this incident, 02 (2) police personnel and 07 (7) civilians were injured and shifted to hospital. The security forces were eventually able to control the situation.
Additionally, security forces conducted a search operation in the area and destroyed 01(one) bunker.
