Guwahati: Fugitive ‘Waras Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh was arrested on Sunday morning from Road village of Moga in Punjab, police said.
According to reports, the pro-Khalistan leader is being shifted to Dibrugarh jail in Upper Assam where other members of his organization are already lodged.
According to reports, Punjab Police arrested Amritpal Singh after he surrendered before the police at Gurdwara Janam Asthan Sant Khalsa in Road village. He has been arrested under the National Security Act (NSA).
Before his arrest, Amritpal Singh addressed a gathering at a gurdwara in Rode village in Moga district.
At least six cases have been registered against him in Amritsar rural and Jalandhar rural police districts.
Amritpal had been absconding since March 18, the day a major crackdown was launched against him and his associates in Punjab.
On April 21, Amritpal Singh’s wife Karindeep Kaur was barred from boarding a London-bound flight at the Sri Guru Ram Dass International Airport and sent back to her husband’s home in Jalupur Khera, Amritsar.
Singh married a UK-based non-resident Indian corps on 10 February.
