Dimapur: Assam Rifles rescued six persons allegedly held hostage by NSCN (IM) in Dimapur.
In an operation launched around midnight last night, troops of the Assam Rifles rescued six civilians who were abducted by the NSCN on different occasions between April 13 and April 27 and their relatives, a defense release said on Friday. A ransom was demanded from families.
They were rescued from Bamanpukhri House, an apparently illegal place used by the NSCN (IM) for similar nefarious activities, the release said.
Five NSCN freedom-fighters were also arrested during the operation.
Among the rescued civilians are Mulutayo Kezo of Kikruma under Phek district, who was abducted on April 25, Akito Sumi of Burma Camp Dimapur, who was abducted on April 27,Raju Gupta of Judge Bazar village under Aarah district of Bihar, who was abducted on April 25. April 21, Raj kumar Das of Lanka in Assam, who was abducted on April 21, Piyar Ali of Lahorijaan under Karbi Anglong district of Assam, who was abducted on April 13, and Huvito Sumi of Half Nagarjan in Dimapur. who were abducted on April 27.
Among the arrested NSCN cadres were “self-proclaimed” Lt. Khenito Assumi, “self-proclaimed” Second Lt. Neison, “self-proclaimed” Lance Cpl Mughahuto, “self-proclaimed” Sergeant Chonenthung Murry and “self-proclaimed” Sergeant Katoho Yepto, the release said. added.
