From Moreh activist seeks evacuation of 22 Meiteis to relief camp

Imphal: An activist has requested the Commissioner (Home) of Manipur to shift the 22 deceased who are now sheltering in the KLP camp of the Assam Rifles in Moreh.

In his letter to the Commissioner (Home), activist Keisam Pradipkumar claimed that he came to know through the local press that 22 Meiteis were taking shelter in the Assam Rifles camp in Moreh.
He added that after seeking refuge in Myanmar for about three months after the May 3 incident, several people took refuge in the campus of KLP Camp Assam Rifles under the surveillance of the state government and security personnel.
A number of Meiteis who took shelter inside the camp were shifted to Imphal and other districts of the valley. However, he claims 22 of them are still in the camp, being treated like stepmothers.
According to reports, 22 Meiteis have addressed the concerned AR and sub-divisional officials requesting their evacuation from the valley area. However, they were still detained inside the camp, as the state administration did not allow them to leave.
According to him, the majority of people are finding it difficult to survive due to non-availability of food and clothing.
People are forced to evacuate or leave their homes during ethnic conflicts, and the death rate among the displaced is higher than that of the general population. According to the activist, they are also at significant risk of physical abuse, sexual assault, and kidnapping, and are generally denied adequate shelter, food, and health care.
“Homelessness shatters years and generations of lives, creates severe hardship and suffering, breaks up families, disrupts social and cultural ties, disrupts education and development, disrupts essential needs,” he added. Access is denied, and innocent people face serious human rights violations”.
He said that thousands of central security forces were airlifted and security forces were deployed in every corner of the state to control the ongoing ethnic conflict.
So, evacuating 22 Meiteis from Moreh to Imphal would not be a difficult task, and earlier the security forces had evacuated a large number of Meiteis from Moreh to Imphal without any difficulty.
