Imphal: Police in Manipur seized drugs worth over Rs 1 crore on Wednesday (May 2).
Police seized a consignment of brown sugar weighing 1.08 kg at Singhat in Manipur.
Singhat is located in Churachandpur district of Manipur and is close to the India Myanmar border.
The consignment of brown sugar was seized by the Manipur police from a vehicle in Singhat.
Manipur police have also arrested two persons in connection with drug seizure.
Notably, the police was on high alert after receiving information from across the border that some anti-social elements had smuggled drugs from Myanmar through the unsecured borders of Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
The police also seized the vehicle, which was used to transport the drugs to Manipur.
The arrested drug smugglers have been identified as Sulkhajang (60) and Liang Sanglen (34).
Both the arrested persons belong to Chaurachandpur district of Manipur.
The drugs were hidden inside the vehicle and hidden in 90 cases of soap.
The arrested persons along with the seized items and the seized vehicle have been handed over to Singhat Police Station, Manipur for further legal action and investigation.
