From Imphal East 10 grenades and cache of weapons recovered

Imphal: Following a warning by the Manipur government to return looted weapons within a fortnight, a joint team of Manipur Police and Assam Rifles recovered 10 grenades, a cache of arms and ammunition in the last 36 hours.
Acting on a tip-off that there were arms and ammunition stores in Chingkhei Ching range of Imphal East district, a joint team of police from Assam Rifles and Lamlai police station on Sunday searched and recovered one .303 rifle and 10 handguns. Bombs recovered.
Specific intelligence was also received about the possible transport of arms through the village of New SShijang near Moreh on the Myanmar border. An AR check post in the village detected a vehicle approaching their position.
When challenged, the occupant of the vehicle quickly retreated into a nearby forest, abandoning the Kenbo vehicle loaded with suspicious items.

A thorough search of the abandoned vehicle and its contents resulted in the recovery of one 9mm pistol, two country-made mortars, two country-made single-shot guns, ammunition, and warlike stores.
Despite the search, the accused could not be arrested.
The recovered bomb, arms, ammunition and vehicle were handed over to the respective police stations for further legal action.

The recovery of weapons is a first of its kind after the Manipur government in its directive on Friday warned those who have looted weapons to return them within 15 days or face strict legal and security measures.
