Dimapur: During a drive to enforce the Model Code of Conduct in Nagaland, the police allegedly recovered cash worth of Rs 5 lakh from a government vehicle used by a senior officer as a flying squad for election purposes in Kohima, Nagaland.
In an effort to strictly enforce the Model Code of Conduct during the election process, the Nagaland Police on Tuesday conducted a two-hour campaign across the state.
The cash was given to the Election Expenditure Monitoring Committee in Kohima after following due process. Kohima Deputy Commissioner Shanavas C said the amount will be kept in the treasury and the person can appeal within seven days giving reasons.
Apart from the unaccounted cash, the Nagaland Police along with SST, FST and CAPF officers conducted intelligence on vehicles with fake government number plates or “On Election Duty” stickers to disrupt the election process. An exercise followed by gender information. This resulted in 975 kg of nuts, Rs. 1.5 lakh and other types of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were seized.
All senior officers of Nagaland Police were involved in this operation.
Official vehicles of top state/central government officials, including special police en route to Mokokchung with election observers, were also checked.
