Shillong: Two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by the BSF from Meghalaya’s western Jaintia Hills district for illegally entering the country without valid government documents, officials said on Thursday.
Acting on a specific tip-off, BSF troops arrested 37-year-old Rahul Amin, a resident of Bangladesh’s Sylhet district, and 36-year-old Mohammad Abdul Kasim, a resident of neighboring Sunamganj district, along the international border on Wednesday, he said. Arrested from Dawki.
A BSF spokesperson said the duo had entered India illegally to find a house to live in and help other Bangladeshis to enter India illegally.
Amin told the BSF during interrogation that he was on his way to Guwahati to pick up three more Bangladeshi’s who were returning from Jammu and Kashmir by train, the officer told.
Both the Bangladeshi nationals were handed over to the local police by the BSF.
BSF said that based on information provided to BSF by Amin, GRP Guwahati arrested three Bangladeshi nationals from Guwahati railway station.
