Agartala: Ten Rohingya refugees and two Bangladeshis along with their “Indian handler” have been arrested from Agartala station, a senior railway police officer said on Sunday.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) officer said that upon questioning, the Rohingyas admitted that they had fled the Cox’s Bazar camp in Bangladesh and entered India illegally.
Superintendent of Police, GRP, Amitabh Pal said that all 13 of them were waiting to board the Kanchenjunga Express to Kolkata.
With the latest arrests, the total number of Rohingyas apprehended at the Agartala railway station in February rose to 33. They have three children, Paul emphasized.
“Acting on specific information, RPF and GRP personnel on Saturday detained 13 people including 10 Rohingyas, two Bangladeshis and their Indian handler, a resident of Madhupur in Sepahijala district. They were going to Kolkata about to board the Kanchenjunga Express,” he said.
According to Paul, Rohingya infiltrators are entering the state through the unsecured international border along Sepahijala district.
“We have intensified the checking drive at railway stations to nab all the infiltrators,” he said.
