Manipur: Seven more people, including three villagers, were killed in violence-hit Manipur in fresh clashes between Kuki villagers and village volunteers in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Sunday morning.
According to sources, clashes broke out between Kuki militants and village volunteers in the early hours of Sunday in Khoijumantabi, which borders Churachandpur district of Bishnupur, in which seven people, including three village volunteers, were killed.
Despite appeals by several groups and leaders for peace and the restoration of normalcy, the ongoing violence in Manipur has claimed more than 120 lives, while more than 300 others have been injured.
More than 52,000 people have been displaced since May 3 because their homes were destroyed by fire or vandalism.
On Saturday, Governor Anusuiya Uikey appealed to the people of Manipur to bring peace and normalcy to the state as the unrest continued for nearly two months.
In her message to the people, she said, “I sincerely appeal to all people, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, to give their full cooperation to resolve this issue through peaceful and peaceful dialogue for co-existence. Our centuries-old tradition can be maintained.”
