Bishnupur: At least four persons, including a youth, were killed in an exchange of fire between a Manipur police commando and two Kuki militants in Kwakta under Bishnupur district on Friday.
A teenage boy, who had just passed his twelfth standard this year, was killed in an attack by Kuki militants early on Friday in Kwakta in Bishnupur district. The incident took place at around 1:45 am near a sericulture farm at Kwakta Kuthabi Ward No. 8, Tiddim Road, under the jurisdiction of Phougakchao Ikhai Police Station, Bishnupur District.
The deceased has been identified as 17-year-old Mayanglambam Ricky, son of M Ibomcha of Kwakta Ward No. 9, who had recently passed the Class 12 examination.
According to the Police Control Room, suspected armed miscreants opened fire towards Phougakchao Ikhai Awang Leikai and Kwakta area of Bishnupur district, killing one civilian and injuring another.
However, the police and security forces arrived and drove the miscreants back. Police said it was learned that five suspected armed miscreants sustained bullet injuries, two of whom succumbed to their injuries.
According to sources, M. Ibomcha told his son to run away from his house because of the gunfight between the Kuki militants and the village volunteers. Sources added that Ricky Komaki fled towards Kwakta Bazar on an e-scooter but Kuki militants shot him dead in Kwakta Ward No. 8 Kuthabi Muslim Leikai, where Kuki militants were already hiding.
An autopsy was conducted on Ricky’s lifeless body, but his body is yet to be brought back to Kwakta due to continuous firing in the area.
A large number of Assam Rifles troops reportedly prevented state forces from entering the site of the gunfight in Kwakta Bazaar, which villagers alleged was an attempt by the militants to flee the scene. There was a pre-planned strategy.
In retaliatory action, the women stopped vehicles of central forces at Nangthukhong, Moirang, Bishnupur Bazar and Kwakta Bazar. AR personnel reportedly used force against the women who were blocking the road. It is known that many women were injured due to the abuse of AR.
Later around 6 pm, a police commando of Bishnupur district was shot and killed when suspected Kuki militants attacked Kokta Ward No. 9 Moirang Turel Mapan Meitei village once again.
The slain commando has been identified as Pukham Ranbir (39), a son of P Ibomcha of Moirang Patlou Leikai. He was shot dead while guarding a bunker in Kwakta Ward No. 9 Moirang Turel Mapan.
Militants reportedly attacked and shot him from the side of Hakone Kuki village. He was taken to the Raj Medical Center in Imphal but succumbed to his injuries on the way. His body has been kept at the RIMS mortuary.
Meanwhile, students of Moering Multipurpose Higher Secondary School staged a sit-in protest in front of their school, condemning the killing of Myengbam Ricky Meitei of Ward No. 9, Kwakta Turel Mapal of Kwakta Municipal Council.
