Imphal: Assam Rifles troops arrested at least four active freedom-fighters of the banned Kuki National Liberation Army (KNLA), including its chairman, from Sapermeina in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
Additionally, security personnel also nabbed an active freedom-fighter of the NSCN-IM at Sapermeina in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, an official said.
Based on reliable information, operational columns of Mantripukhri Battalion of Assam Rifles were launched in Sapermeina area of Kangpokpi district of Manipur on Monday, a defense statement said on Wednesday.
The operation party set up a mobile check post and during the checking and search of suspected passers-by, the self-proclaimed chairman of the KNLA, identified as Ngamkhogin alias Hegin, was arrested.
Further operations led to the arrest of four other militants.
Arrested KNLA chairman Ngamkhogin was allegedly involved in notorious activities such as extortion and arms smuggling.
The statement added that the arrested persons have been handed over to Manipur’s Yangaingangpokpi Police Station along with the seized items for further legal action against them.
