For voicing on Manipur, singer Soma Laishram banned for 3 years
Imphal: A powerful Manipur social organization Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has barred popular Manipuri film actress and singer Soma Laishram from acting in films and social programs for three years.
The ban was imposed for her participation in the “Show stopper” beauty pageant at the Northeast Festival organized by My Home India at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on September 16.
In a statement issued on Monday, the KKL said that Laishram’s participation in the festivities was a “primary offense” that is “compounded to portray Manipur as a normal state.”
The statement added that the ban was imposed despite KKL’s appeal to all Meitei communities and personally advising Soma Laishram to refrain from participating in the celebrations while Manipur is still burning and the bodies of fellow Meiteis are still lying there. It has been rotting for four months.
The organization has also warned that if any individual or group violates this directive and involves Laishram in their projects, they will face the consequences of their actions.
It also appealed to all CSOs and Meira Paibis to stand in this initiative.
