For upcoming Lok Sabha polls, NDPP declares Chumben Murry

Kohima: The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDDP) has announced former minister and doctor-turned-politician Dr. Chumben Murry as the consensus candidate of the People’s Democratic Alliance for the sole Lok Sabha seat in Nagaland in the upcoming general elections.
NDPP’s Tokheho Yepthomi is the current Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from the state.
The NDDP took the decision at its parliamentary board meeting at the party headquarters in Kohima on Friday, the party’s media and communication committee said in a release on Saturday.
NDPP Parliamentary Board Convenor and Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio chaired the meeting chaired by NDPP President Chingwang Konyak on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the necessary preparations to face the upcoming elections.
The party appealed to all sections of the people and all political parties to continue supporting the PDA government and the unanimous candidate of the PDA in the upcoming elections.
NDPP is running a coalition government in the state along with BJP and other parties.
Appreciating all the political parties and leaders who are part of the opposition-less government in the state and supporting the leadership of the Chief Minister and the PDA government, the party thanked the coalition partner BJP in the leadership. . Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda to support the state government and maintain a positive spirit of unity.
Although Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president Supongmeren Jamir had said last month that the Congress would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the party is yet to announce its candidate.
Once the party announces its candidate, the state is likely to see a two-cornered contest in the Lok Sabha polls.
