For trying to open emergency exit midair IndiGo passenger arrested
Agartala: A passenger of an IndiGo flight was arrested at the Agartala airport on September 21 for allegedly trying to open the plane’s mid-air emergency exit and misbehaving with crew members, police said.
Biswajit Debnath (41) was flying on a Guwahati-Agartala IndiGo flight when he tried to open the plane’s emergency exit before his fellow passengers pulled him back, Tripura police spokesperson Jyotisman Das Chowdhury said.
“When the crew members asked him to take his seat, Debnath misbehaved with them. Fellow passengers alleged that Debnath was under the influence of drugs,” Das Chowdhary told the media.
Debnath was arrested by the airport police after the flight landed at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.
Speaking to India Today NE, Additional Inspector General of Police, Jyotishman Das Chowdhary said that the man hailed from Jiraniya in Agartala and was returning from Hyderabad, passing through Agartala via Guwahati.
“When the flight was in the final stages of landing, Debnath tried to open one of the emergency doors. A brave air hostess managed it with the support of her fellow passengers.
Despite Debnath’s recklessness and constant attempts to reach the handle, the determined passengers managed to stop him, though some were injured as a result. We suspect that he is addicted to drugs”, said the policeman.
He added that soon the plane landed on IndiGo and was detained by CISF personnel at Agartala and handed over to Tripura police.
