Guwahati: A youth from Assam’s Bajali district who joined banned outfit United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent (ULFA-I) has been hanged for allegedly trying to escape from a camp in Myanmar.
The deceased has been identified as Abinash Kalita from Pathsala, who was also a mixed martial arts (MMA) player and had allegedly tried to escape from the camp along with another fighter in early September this year.
After which both of them were sentenced to death by the banned organization.
Speaking to the media, the father of the slain ULFA-I fighter said, “On March 9, 2022, my son Abinash joined the banned ULFA-I.
I recently learned that he escaped from the camp. was killed while trying, thus if ULFA-I Commander-in-Chief Paresh Baruah is still alive, I request him to clarify his stand on the matter.
Meanwhile, reacting to the death of ULFA-I fighter in the camp, Assam Director General of Police GP Singh took to the X platform to urge the youth not to waste their lives for the ‘brutal organisation’.
