Agartala: High-powered campaigning for the Tripura Assembly elections ended on Tuesday, a top election official said.

Polling for the 60-member assembly will be held on February 16 and counting of votes will take place on March 3.
“Campaigning for the assembly elections ended at 4 pm on Tuesday without any major law and order problem. The poll machinery is ready to conduct free, fair and peaceful elections on February 16,” the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gitte Kirankumar Dinakarrao told PTI.

He said that polling will be held at 3,328 polling booths, of which 1,100 are sensitive and 28 are classified as critical.
During the month-long campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda and a dozen Union ministers campaigned for the saffron party’s candidates.

BJP organized Vijay Sankalp Yatra, rallies and road shows to woo voters.
CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, and senior leaders Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat and Mohammad Salim, former chief minister Manik Sarkar and party state secretary Jitendra Choudhary campaigned for the party.
Congress leaders Adhir Chowdhary, Dipa Dasmunshi and AICC general secretary Ajay Kumar campaigned for the old party, but neither Rahul Gandhi nor Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the state to campaign.

Ex-royal Pardyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma single-handedly canvassed for his Tipra Motha party.
While the BJP’s star campaigners highlighted the progress in the northeastern state in the last five years, the Left Front and the Congress emphasized the “misrule and misrule” of the BJP-IPFT government.

Tipra Motha, a regional political party that contests 42 assembly constituencies, emphasized its demand for a Greater Tipraland state.
Adequate security measures have been taken across the state and along the international border with Bangladesh, a senior police officer said.
A total of 259 candidates are in the election race, out of which 20 are women.

BJP is contesting on 55 assembly seats, its ally IPFT has fielded candidates on six seats, while one seat will be a friendly contest.

CPI(M) is contesting on 47 seats and Congress on 13 seats.
Trinamool Congress has fielded candidates in 28 constituencies and there are 58 independent candidates.

The ruling BJP has fielded maximum 12 women candidates.
On February 16, 28.13 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their right to vote.
