Kohima: The Dimapur police have acted following threats by the self-styled Nagaland Transparency, a public rights advocacy and direct action organisation. (NTPRADAO).
The unregistered organization had issued a warning to storm the government constituencies of all 60 legislators if the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) passed a bill in support of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
Dimapur police have arrested five people in this case after thorough investigation. Michael Tungoe, President; Ikato Zhimomi, General Secretary of Public Policy; Albert Kire, General Secretary; Temjen Mar Ao, State Executive Member;
And Hayithung T. Lotha, the chief adviser, now faces charges of criminal intimidation, conspiracy to commit crimes against lawmakers, and threatening to destroy government property with intent to incite a breach of the peace.
The arrests were made after a case was registered at Dimapur’s East police station.
The development follows a stern warning issued by NTPRADAO on June 30, where the organization announced its opposition to the Uniform Civil Code and threatened to take extreme measures if the bill is passed by the NLA.
