For raping minor girl repeatedly, father-son duo jailed

Aizawl: In a heinous crime, a 53-year-old man and his 23-year-old son from a village in Mizoram’s Champhai district near the Myanmar border were recently arrested and jailed for repeatedly raping a minor girl.
The accused have been identified as Saitawna and her son Vanlalmawia.
They were accused of molesting the minor girl when she was four years old.
The heinous crime came to light recently when the girl’s teacher asked her to write about her life experience, which she had not told anyone before.
It was during the practice that the girl revealed the painful ordeal she had endured.
According to her revelation, Saitawna molested her when she was four and her son raped her when she was nine.
She said that after such incidents the father and son raped her for many years.
Although the teacher urged the girl to report the incident to the police, she wanted to file a complaint after completing her Class 10 board exams.
When she completed the exams, his father lodged a complaint with the police, which led to the arrest of the two accused.
Meanwhile, Mizoram’s apex student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) strongly condemned the incident and demanded strict punishment against both the accused.
