For Poor Things, Emma Stone wins Oscar at 96th Academy awards

Emma Stone has won the Best Actress Oscar for Poor Things at the 96th Academy Awards in Los Angeles.
Emma Stone won for her role as Bella Baxter in the fantasy comedy Period, based on Alasdair Gray’s novel. It is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Willem Dafoe and Ramy Youssef.
The character, the result of a child’s brain implanted in an adult’s body, has proven controversial due to the film’s intense sexuality and nudity.
Stone had to see off a field that included the hot-tipped Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon, Sandra Hüller for Anatomy of a Fall and Carey Mulligan for The Teacher.
This marks Stone’s second Best Actress win, following her 2017 win for La La Land. She has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress twice before, for Birdman in 2015 and The Favorite in 2019, but won neither.
Stone has already won several awards for Poor Things, including a BAFTA for Best Actress and a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
Her second Oscar means she now joins Meryl Streep, Jane Fonda and Jodie Foster as double Best Actress Oscar winners.
“My dress is torn,” she began, “I think it happened during the Just Can.”
A visibly overwhelmed Stone addressed his main rival Gladstone saying he was “in awe of you”. “It’s been an honor to do this with you and I hope we continue to do this together.”
She finished by thanking the team behind Poor Things, including Yorgos Lanthimos: “Thank you for the gift of a lifetime in the role of Bella.”
Stone then thanked her parents and brother, her husband and her daughter, “who’s going to be three in three days and made our world Technicolor. I love you more than the sky.” “
