Dimapur: Former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president and senior Congress leader K Therie accused Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh of being responsible for the Manipur violence.
In a statement, Therie alleged that Singh was responsible for the loss of nearly 100 lives and the suffering of tens of thousands of civilians through no fault of his own.
Therie said that the Chief Minister of Manipur has lost command over the Kukis and has also lost the command and respect of all sensible citizens.
According to him, the continuation of Singh will worsen the situation.
K Therie said that if one really wanted to bring about a peaceful solution, the Chief Minister of Manipur should stop creating “unrest” in the state.
He said the pain of the people of Manipur was “our pain”, adding that everyone was concerned and wanted peace to be restored.
Therie hoped that leaders and thinkers would sit down at the table and iron out any contradictions.
He also stressed on protecting each other’s interests, whether they are Meiteis, Kukis or Nagas, as all are inseparable neighbours.
“Although it cannot be at the cost of inherent rights and the future, it is also our responsibility to be positive to each other,” Therie said.
Maintaining that investigation teams cannot solve political problems as their aim is to bring criminals to book, Therie said it is the duty of political leaders to come together and solve the problem connect the head.
Welcoming Manipur’s Naga MLAs for coming forward with proposals for peace, Therie, however, in a recent meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, said they should not touch the hilly areas. Asked to arrange separate administration in case of Kukis, who expressed ‘no objection’ to setting up a separate administration.
Claiming that this meant the disintegration of the Manipur state, he said it was because, according to the Constitution, there could be no separate administration without a UT or a state.
Therie went on to say that the Naga MLA’s message was silent on the demand for tribal status for the Meiteis. “This means that the delegates have approved the status of Scheduled Tribe to the Metis,” he said.
