GUWAHATI: Two National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) (NSCN-IM) leaders have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of a former Manipur minister’s son, the minister said. Senior N Biren Singh told the state assembly on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister claimed that one of the alleged accused is a senior NSCN (IM) minister, another is a spinster, and the third is an absconding NSCN (IM) man.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Moses Gonmei (41) and a 40-year-old woman, Thokchom Sonia.
Singh added that though state forces are unable to solve the case, it will be handed over to national enforcement agencies like the NIA or the CBI.

Meanwhile, the arrested persons have been remanded in judicial custody to trace the death of 40-year-old Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging, the CM said.
On 12 February 2023, Akoijam Ngonganba, son of the late former Minister Akoijam Lanngam, was found dead in Changoubung, Kangpokpi District.

On February 11, the youth and his friend, both from Imphal, went to Kangpokpi. The girl was released.
However, unknown persons allegedly stoned the boy to death.

Meanwhile, the activists demanded the immediate arrest of the killers and refused to claim the body. After that, he gave 24 hours time to arrest the accused.
