Imphal: Re-polling is currently underway at 11 polling booths of the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency in Manipur.
This comes after the Election Commission declared Friday’s voting void due to incidents of violence, including firing and clashes.
The Chief Electoral Officer announced on Saturday that re-polling will be held at these 11 stations on April 22.
According to the official, the polling stations that will conduct re-polling include Moirangkampu Sajeb and Thongam Leikai in Khurai constituency, four each in Kshetrigao and Thongju in Imphal East district, and three in Imphal West district and Konthoujam.
Incidents of firing, intimidation, destruction of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and alleged booth capture at several polling booths were reported during the Lok Sabha elections in disputed Manipur on Friday.
The state, which comprises Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur constituencies, saw 72 percent voting.
The Congress party demanded re-polling at 47 polling stations alleging election rigging and booth capture.
Manipur Congress president K Meghachandra confirmed that a complaint has been filed with the Chief Electoral Officer, demanding re-polling at 36 stations in Inner Manipur and 11 stations in Outer Manipur.
