For inclusive solution of Indo-Naga issue ANSAM urges One voice

Imphal: The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has reiterated its commitment to the Indo-Naga political peace talks, emphasizing the need for a logical resolution to the Naga issue, which has persisted for 78 years.

In a press release, ANSAM highlighted the historical context of the Naga National Struggle, which has involved two decades of political discussions initiated in 2002. These talks led to the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015, between the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) and the Government of India.

This agreement was grounded in the unique history and circumstances of the Nagas, advocating for a concept of shared sovereignty between the two entities.

Despite nearly nine years since the signing of the Framework Agreement and over 22 years of ongoing discussions at the highest levels of government, ANSAM expressed concern over the Government of India’s recent backtracking on commitments regarding a separate Naga flag and constitution. This has left the peace talks in a state of impasse rather than a complete deadlock.

ANSAM praised the government’s decision to resume political talks after a prolonged hiatus, expressing optimism about the potential for a positive outcome. The association stated that the Government of India has already acknowledged the political aspirations and rights of the Naga people.

As the resumption of the Indo-Naga political peace talks is scheduled for October 2024 in New Delhi, ANSAM called upon all Naga students, youths, churches, and the wider Naga populace to pray for guidance and support for their leaders, particularly Eno VS Atem, the Deputy Ato Kilonser of NSCN/GPRN.

They emphasized the importance of cultivating a unified voice advocating for an inclusive solution that recognizes the Naga people’s inalienable rights to a flag, constitution, and integration.
