For Hornbill festival 2023 Nagaland govt is gearing up

Kohima: Nagaland is gearing up for the annual Hornbill Festival to be held from December 1 to 10. Presiding over a preparatory meeting on Friday, Chief Secretary Jay Alam expressed concern over the poor condition of the road from Kohima to Naga Heritage Village Kisama.
All line departments participated in the meeting to discuss the preparations and roadmap for the upcoming Hornbill Festival at the Secretariat Conference Hall, Kohima.
During the meeting, Chief Secretary Alam emphasized the importance of inter-district cooperation and active cooperation for the local entrepreneurs participating in the upcoming fair.
He also expressed deep concern over the poor condition of the road between Kohima and Kisama village, which is the only route from Kohima to the fair venue. He urged the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure timely repair of the road, stressing that a well-maintained road plays an important role in building the image of the state.
Alam emphasized the importance of attracting more tourists to the fair and highlighted the need for every department to actively engage and contribute to exciting activities.
An additional point of emphasis was the use of biodegradable products during the Hornbill Festival, with strict enforcement of the plastic ban at the event. He also announced plans for another review meeting and requested all departments to submit their proposed activities for further discussion in the upcoming meeting.
During the meeting, the Tourism Secretary, Nchumbemo Lotha, provided an insight into the various ongoing activities and reported on the ongoing renovation and upgrading work at the Heritage Village.
He mentioned that either Pochury Naga or Rengma Naga tribe will have the honor of hosting the opening ceremony, or all the tribes will be given the opportunity to offer tribal blessings during the morning and evening cultural programs. He urged the departments to immediately present their activities for inclusion in the festival calendar.
Dzuvinuo Theunuo, Director of Information and Public Relations, highlighted the department’s plans, including holding a first-ever open video/vlogging competition to promote film development and provide a platform to film buffs.
TAFMA Project Director Dr Hovithal Sothu announced the establishment of a contemporary art gallery to showcase artistic talent.
Various line departments including Art and Culture, Tourism, Industries and Commerce, Honey Mission, PWD, and RD provided updates on their respective departmental activities planned for the upcoming Hornbill Festival.
