What turned the case around was that out of the 6 original registration certificates, 5 certificates were found to be made with wrong engine and chassis numbers. In fact, even for Gulam Ali’s vehicle which was impounded by the police (ML 07 C 1786), the engine number of the vehicle was shown as a different owner and the chassis number on the Maruti Suzuki database was invalid.
After this search, the police scrutinized all the registration certificates found on Ali’s vehicle and found that 4 of the 5 vehicles came with fake engine and chassis numbers (company – Suzuki and Tata, according to the database).

A thorough investigation was conducted and it was found that DTO EGH had issued the registration certificates of these vehicles without checking any valid engine or chassis number credentials.
Further, according to police sources, soon after the Assam Police registered a case and arrested Gulam Ali in Agia on May 5, a suspicious case of arson was reported at the DTO’s office, apparently from a paper trail. is about. Case. Important documents of the case were apparently burnt.

Goalpara Superintendent of Police V.V. Rakesh Reddy said, “During the interrogation of Gulam Ali, it came to light that the East Garo Hills DTO was his accomplice,” adding that the police were in possession of him. Three vehicles and five registration cards have been found.

SP Reddy also said, “We have come to know that there has been a fire incident in the DTO office recently. We should investigate whether this incident was part of a conspiracy or not. He also said that there is a possibility of an attempt to destroy the evidence by burning the relevant documents in the DTO office.
