Guwahati: Police and paramilitary Assam Rifles in Manipur have arrested at least three suspected activists belonging to different groups in separate operations.
On Friday, a activist was arrested for allegedly extorting money from Arong Nongmaikhong area of Kakching District, officials said.
Based on intelligence data, a search operation was launched at around 3.30 am, during which a suspected freedom-fighter of the outlawed United National Liberation Front (UNLF), identified as Salam Santa, was arrested.
However, upon questioning, Santa revealed that he was working under a Punshiba of the organization and was tasked with collecting money in Arong Nongmaikhong area.
Officials further said that the activists has been handed over to Arong police station for further investigation.
In another incident, the state police on Thursday arrested two members of the banned Pripak outfit from Sekmaijin Thongam area of Imphal West district, the official said.
According to the official, the arrested persons were active in carrying out extortion and subversive activities in the Valley.
They have been handed over to Mayang Imphal Police Station for further investigation.
