Imphal: Manipur-based tribal student groups including the Kuki Students Organization (KSO) and the Hmar Students Association (HSA) have accused the Valley-based media of allegedly publishing ‘fake and one-sided news’ regarding the Manipur violence. Media outlets have been condemned.
A joint statement was issued by tribal student organizations of Manipur which said, “We strongly condemn the Valley-based media outlets, be they print and especially, The Sangai Express. and ISTV, the violation of media ethics and their tendency to spread fake news and one-sided news and suppress the voice of tribals.
In view of the continuing incidents of biased news, we announce a ban on all media outlets based in the Valley. We further appeal to the general public to cooperate in banning valley-based media and report all cases of their presence in our lands.
Such a ban has become a necessity as the valley-based media has become a propaganda machine for the state government.
Student organizations have also condemned a regional news channel in Assam for publishing ‘biased’ news on the Manipur crisis.
“Even more alarming is the fact that material that could be considered critical of the state government is being deliberately omitted. We appeal to the news outlet to remain true to the spirit of journalism and be honest. Represent and stand out from all voices,” the joint press release added.
